Full job description
The Post Hotel & Spa in Lake Louise, AB is looking to hire a Junior /Assistant Sommelier to assist the F&B Team.

Position Overview:

Assist in the execution of an exceptional wine program and contributes to the overall success of The Post’s beverage service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Guest Service:

· Provide wine recommendations and pairings to guests based on their preferences and menu selections

· Present and serve wines with proper etiquette and technique

· Educate guests on wine characteristics, regions, and production methods

Wine Service Operations:

· Prepare the wine service area for daily operations

· Ensure proper wine glass selection and preparation for service

· Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wine cellar and service areas

Inventory Support:

· Assist in receiving and properly storing wine deliveries

· Participate in regular inventory counts and cellar organization

· Report low stock levels and damaged products to the Head Sommelier

Continuous Learning:

· Actively participate in staff training sessions and tastings

· Stay informed about new additions to the wine list and seasonal menu changes

· Pursue ongoing wine education and certifications

Collaboration:

· Work closely with servers to ensure seamless integration of wine service with food service

· Communicate effectively with the kitchen team regarding wine pairings and special requests

Other Tasks:

· Accurately process wine sales and maintain proper documentation

· Assist in updating wine lists and menu inserts as directed by the Head Sommelier

· Contribute ideas for improvement of the wine program to the Head Sommelier

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Certification in wine studies or sommelier training.

· Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a high-end restaurant.

· Enthusiastic about wine and eager to expand knowledge in the field.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Customer-focused with a passion for enhancing the dining experience.

· Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced restaurant environment.

· Capable of lifting and carrying wine cases, standing for extended periods, and moving comfortably in a restaurant setting.
