Full Job Description
Directly reporting to the Chef de Partie, the General Cook is responsible for the preparation and assisting in the preparation of meals.

Job Duties

Wash & chop vegetables & fruit, break down, cut or grind meat and weigh & mix ingredients
Prepares main course items for each meal period, including but not limited to, stocks, soups, sauces, meats, starches, vegetables and proteins
Prepare salads and desserts
Serve meals
Adhere to and enforce all appropriate workplace regulations, compliances, and legislation regarding health and safety, food preparation standards, and company policies and procedures
Protect the health and safety of others by adopting safe work practices and reporting unsafe conditions immediately
Maintain familiarity with the composition of all menu items and follow prepared menus such as special diets
Ensure all kitchen equipment and tools are being used safely and according to provided direction
Ensure food is handled, stored, and cooked according to health and safety standards, Safe Food Handling and regulated temperature guidelines
Clean designated areas in accordance with procedures, morning or evening routines, and hygiene requirements
Complete major cleaning every day and record completion before end of shift
Will be required to fill in as Relief Cook during Cook's absence
·Protect the health and safety of you and others by adopting safe work practices and reporting unsafe conditions immediately
Be continually aware of, and maintain, the highest standards of professionalism by following the company dress code and/or wearing the company uniform
Ensure a clean and safe working environment, and actively participate in health and safety initiatives
Assist residents when required
Assist team members with their duties to improve operational efficiencies
Assist with resident social functions as required
Attend staff meetings and training when required
Other duties as required or assigned
Job Requirements

Two years of experience with volume food preparation
Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
Demonstrated time management skills
Strong organizational and communication skills
Able to maintain patient and tactful composure when dealing with residents, family members, visitors and fellow employees
Maintain a professional appearance, demeanor and attitude at all times
Must wear a hair net / hat when serving meals. Always use hair net, apron and gloves when handling food. Gloves must be changed between areas; i.e. dining room and living room.
Work Conditions

Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions
Occasional overtime
Fast-paced environment
Will require physical endurance (e.g. maneuvering heavy pots, sharp knives, flour bags, etc.)
Hourly rate will be as per The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local Union No. 955.
