Salary: $62,500 annual equivalent (for internship period)

Join Us in Building the Future of Environmental Modeling

At ApexRMS, we use data and science to shape real-world environmental decisions. Our software and models help governments, researchers, and NGOs forecast how ecosystems change including wildfire risk, carbon dynamics, species conservation, and landscape change.

We’re seeking a Quantitative Ecologist to join our team for a six-month internship, with the potential to transition into a full-time role. If you’re passionate about ecology, modeling, and turning code into meaningful insights, we’d love to hear from you.

Note: Applicants must confirm their eligibility for the ECO Canada Science Horizons Youth Internship Program before applying.

What You’ll Do

Acquire, process, and analyze environmental datasets
Build and apply quantitative models using R*, Python, SyncroSim*, and related tools
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and software developers to model landscape change, carbon dynamics, and habitat conditions
Translate modeling results into clear, actionable outputs for resource managers and policymakers
Contribute to open-science tools and reproducible workflows that support global sustainability efforts
What You Bring

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Geography, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field with strong quantitative or analytical components. A PhD or equivalent research experience is an asset but not required.
Strong quantitative and programming skills (R* and/or Python*)
Ability to work independently and think critically about data and modeling approaches
Interest in environmental forecasting, landscape modeling, or ecosystem dynamics
Familiarity with geospatial analysis and GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) is an asset, but not required
Experience with open-source workflows and version control (e.g., Git) is an asset
Eligibility for ECO Canada’s Science Horizons Youth Internship Program (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee; 30 years old or younger at the start of the internship; recently graduated)
