Job Title: Social Worker (MSW) – Remote Patient Support

Hours: 0.4 FTE - Flexible

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary:

The Social Worker plays a key role in supporting individuals and families impacted by lung cancer. This position provides emotional support and practical assistance to help patients and caregivers cope with diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. Working within Lung Cancer Canada’s Airways of Hope Support Program, the Social Worker ensures that every person affected by lung cancer feels informed, supported, and empowered. This is a remote position, offering the opportunity to provide care and connection to patients and families across Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Patient & Caregiver Support

Offer one-on-one remote emotional support and counselling to individuals and families navigating a lung cancer diagnosis.
Assist patients and caregivers with coping strategies, stress management, and adapting to changes during treatment and survivorship.
Provide crisis intervention and referral to specialized mental health resources as needed.
Maintain a patient-centered, compassionate, and inclusive approach to all interactions.
Program Development & Education

Contribute to the planning and delivery of support groups, workshops, and educational sessions (virtual and in-person).
Identify unmet needs within the lung cancer community and collaborate with LCC to develop new support initiatives.
Provide input to ensure LCC’s patient support materials remain relevant, compassionate, and accessible.
Advocacy & Community Engagement

Amplify the voice of people living with lung cancer by sharing insights and experiences to inform advocacy, policy, and awareness campaigns.
Promote the Airways of Hope Support Program to regional cancer centres and local organizations
Support awareness activities when appropriate.
Administration & Reporting

Maintain accurate records of patient interactions while respecting confidentiality and privacy standards.
Track and evaluate program impact, providing regular updates and recommendations to LCC leadership.
Ensure compliance with professional ethical standards and confidentiality regulations (PHIPA, PIPEDA, etc.).
Assist with reporting to funders, sponsors, or the board as required.
Qualifications & Skills:

Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) and current provincial registration.
Minimum 3 years’ experience providing support in oncology or palliative care.
Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and crisis management skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small, dynamic nonprofit environment.
Experience with virtual counselling and telehealth platforms is an asset.
Knowledge of lung cancer, oncology treatments, and the emotional impact of serious illness.
Willing to pursue e-practice registration in multiple provinces
Assets:

Registration in more than one province
Bilingual (English/French).
Experience with group facilitation and community education.
